What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program designed to help uninsured Canadians access essential dental care at a reduced cost. If your annual household income is under $90,000 and you do not have private dental insurance, you may be eligible for coverage.
The CDCP helps cover many commonly needed dental services, including:
- Dental exams and check-ups
- Cleanings and preventive care
- Fillings
- Tooth extractions
- Dentures and select restorative treatments

Coverage under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is based on government-set fee schedules, which are lower than the current Ontario Dental Association (ODA) Dentist Fee Guide. As a result, CDCP does not cover 100% of the ODA fee guide, and all patients will be responsible for a portion of the treatment cost.
- CDCP covers only a percentage of the government-set fee, not the full ODA fee guide amount.
- Patients are responsible for the remaining balance, which represents their co-payment and any difference between the CDCP fee and the current ODA fee guide.
- Patient portions are calculated using the CDCP fee structure and the current ODA fee guide.
CDCP only covers one cleaning a year, again there will be a portion not covered at 100%.
- Any applicable balance will be clearly explained prior to treatment.
